How to get there

When you arrive in Folkestone, look out for signs directing you to "The Leas", which is the main cliff-top promenade in the town.

For visitors travelling by road and following the M20 motorway, the following additional directions should help:-

  • You need to leave the dual carriageway where the motorway ends, at Junction 13, signposted for A20 F'stone.
  • The exit road bridges the dual carriageway and drops down to a roundabout, where you need to take the 2nd exit into Cherry Garden Avenue (A20).
  • Follow Cherry Garden Avenue for about half a mile until you reach traffic lights, where you should turn left into Cheriton Road (A2034).
  • Follow Cheriton Road for about one mile until you reach a roundabout, where you should turn right and pass under the railway bridge. (Folkestone Central station should be on your right as you pass under the bridge, so if its not there or is on your left then you're going the wrong way!).
  • Follow the road round to the right into Castle Hill Avenue until you reach a roundabout intersecting with Shornecliffe Road.
  • Castle Hill Avenue continues as the 2nd exit from the roundabout (ie. almost straight ahead), as a one-way system with a wide grass and tree-lined central reservation to your right. Keep going straight ahead, across 1 roundabout (intersecting with Bouverie Road West) until you reach a 2nd roundabout where you should turn left into Sandgate Road.
  • A few yards further on there is a right turn into an underground pay-and-display car park, which has a short pedestrian tunnel taking you out directly opposite the Leas Cliff Hall.

For visitors travelling by rail, the following additional directions should help:-

  • Travel to Folkestone Central station. The Leas Cliff Hall is about half a mile from the station.
  • On leaving the station building, turn right and follow the slope down to the T junction.
  • Turn right, go under the railway bridge and follow the road round to the right into Castle Hill Avenue until you reach a roundabout intersecting with Shornecliffe Road.
  • Castle Hill Avenue continues as the 2nd exit from the roundabout (ie. almost straight ahead), as a one-way system with a wide grass and tree-lined central reservation to your right. Keep going straight ahead, crossing 2 more roundabouts (intersecting with Bouverie Road West and Sandgate Road respectively).
  • This will bring you to a T junction on The Leas, with the Leas Cliff Hall just across the road.
