Once you have successfully downloaded an IRC software client to your computer you will need to follow the following steps to join Dalnet. These directions will also assist you in going to other irc servers as well such as undernet, or dalnet which are quite popular.
1. Go to the "Options" section of your irc client, or it may pop up for you at start up. You will want to make sure you are on the "Connect" screen of your options, which is usually the first choice available. There will be a section at the top that says "IRC Servers". You will need to here select "Dalnet." If Dalnet is not available, hold on for an explanation of what to do.
1A. If Dalnet does not show up in your menu of servers to choose from do the following. Go to "Options" and then "Connect". Where it says "IRC Servers" there should be an "Add" button to push. Go into "Add" then in "Description write "Dalnett: Random Server". (without the quotation marks). For "Irc Server" write "dal.net.irc.net" (remember the periods). After it will say "Ports". Type in "6667-6669, 7000" and for "Group" write in "Dalnet". If you do not write it exactly as it is here it may not allow you to connect properly. Afterwards press "Okay". This will add it to your choice of servers and you should now be able to find it when you look to choose starchat amongst the other servers. Proceed to #2 now.
2. After selecting "Dalnet" choose one of the servers offered in the selection. You can choose one that is closest to you for the best time effect. There are arrows pointing down so do not just connect to a server once starchat is up, but instead browse down the list and choose one server of your choice.
3. Once this is completed hit the "Connect" button on the options screen or you can select to connect by using the top bar that goes across on most IRC programs. You should now be connected to Dalnet. If the first attempt fails you can go into your "Options" once more and then check in the box that says "Reconnect on Disconnection". This will enable your irc client to try to resolve the server a few times instead of having to press buttons to reconnect constantly. The IRC client should be able to resolve your isp and area automatically. Also check in the box "When connecting if not connected within "60 seconds retry connection. Take out the check mark that says "Try next server group" because this will connect you possibly to another server than Dalnet.
4. After this you can choose a nickname you wish to use on Dalnet. If it is already owned by someone else you will be prompted to provide a password. Change your nick to one that does not prompt you for a password. If you like the nick you can register it for yourself by following the command : /nickserv register (nick_of_your_choice) (anygoodpassword). You are now on Dalnet. Finally, last but not least, type in : /join #final_fantasy_rpg and that is where you will find us. You can type /join (anychannel) , replacing (any channel) with your channel of choice to join other chans. You can also go to the top bar of your irc client or there will be a selection that says "List Channels" or "Channel List". You can click on that to get the array of channels available on any irc server you are on. In this case it would be Dal.net.irc
5. You should now be on Dalnet and able to join #Final_Fantasy_rpg. |
