The College was found in 1957, in the old Assembly Building and was shifted to its present permanent building near the historic Shahi Bagh in 1962. Considering the importance of Science and enhance the Science Education, the former Government of West Pakistan felt the need to open Science Colleges at degree level in every Division of west Pakistan. Accordingly, Government Superior Science College Peshawar, was established in portion of the teachers training school Michni Road Peshawar in 1962. Initially subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Maths were taught at Degree level later F.SC (Pre-Engineering) Classes were introduced in the college and in July, 1971 FSc(Pre-Medical) Classes were also started.
The College was shifted to its present campus in 1972. Besides environmental suitability for academic activities, the present building is also suitable because of its location. The famous historic Wazir Bagh lies to its North west. A network of road connects the college with the surrounding areas and makes an easy approach to it.
The college building spreads over a vast area with well ventilated Class-rooms, well equipped laboratories, library, Mosque canteen, play ground and green lawns. There are two halls, one for indoor games and the other for various cultural activities and examinations.
The institution is managed by a qualified and experience team of teaching and Ministerial Staff.
In 1985, Intermediate classes in humanities group were started which after two years were upgraded to degree level.
A Intermediate level the college is affiliated with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Peshawar and at degree level with the University of Peshawar in the Following subjects.

GCGC Peshawar was started as an Inter College in 1986 in a rented building in Faqir Abad Peshawar later on this college was shifted in 4th April, 1991 to building situated in the main G.T. Road opposite to the Road ways House Peshawar where was early approachable for the students & Staff. Presently the College was shifted to a huge building in Gulbahar.
