A scabbard for rattan combat to look like one typical for the late 13th and 14th centuries. Even though my persona is targeting the 1360's, tied scabbard and suspension systems like this appear on effigies throughout the century. The scabbard chape is an interpretation of a sword found in an illumination of the Romance of Alexander*. It is also similar to one seen on a scabbard in the effigy of a knight of the Trumpington family c1300. I modified a belt chape to incorporate my personal badge. The triple scallop motif is approximately 12mm across, cut and filed from brass stock. The scabbard itself is a simple tapered tube of heavy 15 oz. vegetanned leather died a reddish brown. The belt is 7oz black oil-tanned chap side leather.
