Volume 8, Part I
During the double bout between Recca and Tokiya, Neon tells them the reason why she is so willing to protect Kurei no matter what...
One day, when Neon was still Kurei's maid, and Kurenai was still alive, Neon was watering her roses when Kurei approached her. He remarked, "It's a beautiful day, isn't it, Neon?" and she, being so flustered at being spoke to was tongue tied. Kurei asked her for a rose, and saying ethusiastically, "Yes! Right away!" she picked a beautiful rose for him. She was sad when Kurei told her that the rose would be perfect for Scarlet. But then, Kurei placed the rose in Neon's hair, much to her surprise. (More like shock, actually. ^_^) Saying simply, "This is a present for you. You are a lot like a rose, Neon, beautiful but thorny," Kurei walked off, leaving a touched Neon behind.
This is incident is what sparked the desire in Neon to join the Uruha Group of Ten, so that she could be Kurei's right hand woman. Even though Raiha warned her that the going would be tough, she still persisted, and was very happy when her wish came true and she became one of Kurei's "bodyguards".
Volume 8, Part II
(This is a rough summary, since I can't find this volume right now. Some details might be incorrect.)
When fighting against Recca and Tokiya, Neon is shocked when she sees Recca defeat Miki. Recca tells Neon to give up, but she refuses, and flashes back to the scenes when Kurenai was killed etc. Slowly stepping forward, she says, "Kurei-sama has been through so many hardships. Kurenai was taken away from him. His mother was taken away from him. Even his beautiful face was taken away from him," and crying, pleads, "Please don't make Kurei suffer anymore." Then, she tells Recca that there is still one way to defeat him, by using her Requiem. Recca is utterly shocked when Neon tells him that Requiem has the power to destroy the entire arena, and shouts at her to stop. But Neon refuses. She begins her attack (Since she needs to collect the necessary energy first), thinking, "I'll protect Kurei-sama and help him defeat Hokage, even if it costs me my life." Of course, her plans are spoilt by Tokiya, and Recca saves her by using Madoka's barriers. And so on and so forth... but after this nothing much else is related to Kurei.
Volume 11
When Kurei learnt that Neon had told Recca about his past with Kurei, he was furious and beat her up so badly that she bled. When she apologized, he said something like "Forget it! No matter what, I will not be lenient with them (Team Hokage) tomorrow. I have already decided what to do..."
Some may argue that, instead of proving that Kurei has even a tiniest bit of feeling toward Neon, this scene instead shows how cruel he is etc. However, notice he said "Forget it." Usually, when a member of the Uruha betrays Kurei (Neon's actions [Telling Recca about Kurei] would definitely be considered betrayal to him), he'll order them to be killed. But instead, he didn't punish her further. Those who still want to inisist that Kurei is indifferent to Neon, think about this: Neon had already lost her match to Recca. She failed in her mission to defeat Hokage. Tecnically, she is now considered "useless" in his eyes, and he doesn't have any more need for her. Yet he chose to let her live. Don't you think that means something?
Volume 15
It is revealed here that Neon, Raiha and Jishou signed a contract in which they vowed to protect Kurei no matter what. Even if it meant losing their lives for this cause. To seal the pact, they even signed their names in their own blood. This proves that Neon is very devoted to Kurei.
Volume 16
This part is really short, but just before Kurei is about to be killed by Mori, Neon jumps off the cliff with him in an attempt to save his life.
Volume 17
Now THIS is a good volume. Lots of Neon and Kurei. ^_^ When Kurei wakes up, he finds that he has been unconscious for 10 days and that Neon has been caring for him all the while. When Neon gives him his lunch, he remarks on how pale and skinny Neon looks, and she says, "Don't worry about me. Just knowing that you care is enough for me," then proceeds to feed him his lunch. ^_^ (Just a little bit of trivia: When feeding him, Neon tells Kurei that back when she was a maid, still serving him, she was so happy every single day. [Aw! How sweet!] And how he always made her job difficult. ^_^) Then, Kurei chokes on his food as he is suddenly reminded of how everyone he loves has been lost to him. Neon comforts him, and promises to be with him forever, even suggesting that they go to a place where nobody lives and live peaceful lives. Kurei is still afraid and Neon hugs him. Overcome with emotion, Kurei suddenly pins Neon to the floor and she is totally shocked. Neon thinks, "I'll never leave you..." and they kiss! (Argh!)
Later on, Kurei is thinking about what Neon said ealier about leading peacefull lives, and he is actually considering it, until a fat guy comes barging in and threatening to kill Kurei. Trying to save Kurei, Neon is hurt and faints. Enraged, Kurei kills the man. Now that Kurei knows Mori is still after him, he cradles the still unconscious Neon in his arms ("Please forgive me, Neon. I'll never forget you...") and brings her to the hospital, thinking that this way, he'll be able to protect at least one of his loved ones, since he is afraid that Mori will kill her. When Neon finally awakes in the hospital after a few days, she asks for Kurei, and the doctor says, "The man with the burnt mark on his face? He's already left. He had such a gentle and beautiful face... especially when he looked at you. He left me a message to pass to you." Flashback to Kurei's face, smiling gently. "I hope that you'll be able to... lead a happy life..."
Hearing that, Neon begins to cry.
(Wah! That scene was so sad...)
