Tokiya's Battle Skills

His Psychic Device: His Dark Water (From now on, I shall call it by its Japanese name, the Ensui, since it's shorter and I just prefer the sound of it) comes in the form of a sword handle and when placed near a water source, it will form a thin, sharp and lethal-looking blade from the water. It was also proved in the battle against Kai that Tokiya can form the blade out of his own blood. (So it's possible that he can form it out of ANY liquid) Tokiya uses the Ice Sword Technique with this.

How he received it: I'm not too clear about this since I missed the 2nd and 3rd episodes, but I think it was given to him by his sister. (More info on this can be found in Tokiya's Profile)

Ice Sword Technique:

Water Illusion (???): Tokiya holds his sword in front of him, closes his eyes, then concentrates. Mist enevelopes him and he replaces his real self with a form made out of water, so that when the opponent thinks that he/she has "killed" Tokiya, he/she is in reality just striking a glob of water.

Absolute Zero: Tokiya sticks the Ensui into the ground and this causes the surrounding temperature to brought down to (what else?) zero degrees.

Icicle Flow: Tokiya sticks the Ensui into the ground and raises his hand palm down slightly above it. He closes his eyes and concentrates and icicles come shooting out of the ground, impaling the enemy. If the icicles miss, they will smash into the ceiling but, instead of remaining useless, they will freeze the surrounding moisture into even more icicles and then together they rain down onto the enemy. The cycle continues until the enemy is defeated.

Ice Pillar (???): As per usual, he sticks the Ensui into the ground (Gee, this is starting to sound awfully familiar... ^_^) and an enormous pillar of ice comes shooting out of the ground to impale the enemy.

Water Snake: Tokiya shouts something like "From the four corners of the world, water... gather together! Water Snake!". Balls of water come together to form a long snake which then rushes towards the enemy.

Icicle Snake: Basically the same as Water Snake, except that the "snake" is made of icicles. In reality, it is a combination of the Icicle Flow and Water Snake moves.

Tokiya is an extremely good fighter. He is able to memorize the enemies' attacks after fighting only for a short while and doesn't lose his cool during battle like Recca or even Fuuko. (Does Domon ever get angry? Hm... I can't remember...) When he uses his Ice Sword Techniques (which is not really that often, if you think about it), he almost always wins.

Here are some interesting facts I managed to find out by myself. *gasps* Amazing! My brain actually works! *grin*

1) The Japanese name of his device is Ensui (duh), which really DOES mean Dark Water in English. I don't know Japanese, but Ensui sure sounds a lot like its Chinese equivalent, An Shui (An for Dark and Shui for Water), and since most Japanese words are written the same way as Chinese, I'm certain that I'm correct. (Ok, useless piece of information, since you would probably have known. [And who cares about literal meanings of names anyway? >_<])

2) He has his own BGM called "Mizu no Kenshi", aka Swordsman of Water. Do the others have their own? Hm...

3) He's left handed (I think) since he holds his sword with his left. Here's proof...

Tokiya holding his sword in his left hand

In the manga, however, he's holding it with his right.

Tokiya in the manga holding his sword in his right handNow that I've read the manga, I've decided that I don't dislike the way Tokiya is drawn in the manga anymore. Now I think he looks positively drool worthy. ^_^ But I still like his anime self, too. Oops, I'm off topic here... but then again, it IS my website, so I can do whatever I want. ^_^
