Yes, this species of grouper are the most commonly found in our surrounding rocky shores & reefs.
Numerous orange &/or brown spots on head, body & fins. Body with 5 irregular dark bars[sometimes indistinct]
Often misidentified with Malabar G[E. malabaricus], Greasy G[E. tauvina] & Duskytail G[E. bleekeri]. Malabar G have blackish-brown spots & white spots. Greasy G have spots with centre darker than the edges. A large blotch or group of black spots often visible on body at base of last 4 dorsal spines. Duskytail G have dusky tail & fins with partial orange spots.
This fish was caught somewhere off Singapore changi during my 4th offshore trip on 12/2/03.
