Waigieu seaperch Deepsea Sea Bass, Hai kim bak lor(Sea KBL)[hokkien] Psammoperca waigiensis Centropomidae [Snooks] 25.7 cm(below fish) [max to 47 cm] 8.1 cm Marine, Brackish, Rocky, coral reefs, weedy areas, holes & crevices by day. Enters esturies. Feeds on fishes & crustaceans. Tastes much better than those farmed barramundi. Yes. Identical to the "barramundi[lates calcarifer ] in shape esp those juveniles. Look up for the difference in the mouth area - upp jaw do not reach beyond eye whereas barra's jaws goes beyond the eyes: Lower edge of preopercle smooth whereas barra's is serrated. Body color varies from light silvery gray to brown. There's a brown stripe at the upp jaw to the preopercle. It's a much smaller species. This 2 fish was caught, somewhere east of Sg during "My 2nd Offshore trip" on 5/10/02 |
