Character Creation
The Character Creation process probably varies from person to person, and it usually reflects on what types of characters are being created...but then you probably know all this. My point is that White Wolf recommends, and I agree, that when creating a Hunter character you start with the idea of a normal, everyday human being and go from there. Yes, cops and ex-marines (or even current marines) may and should pop up, but the game is about your ordinary Joe that one day finds out the world isn't what he thought it was...and for some reason or another he has to do something about it. Below is my compressed version of the character creation system. |
Starting Out: - Ok, first things first; what does this person do with their lives, spare time? Family? Job? Do they have goals, and have they held on to these things since their Imbuing? What impact did Imbuing have on their lives? Are they a better person because of it or are they locked up in an Asylum? -Choose a Nature (A one-word description of who they really are) and Demeanor (What face they show the outside world). Setting Up Shop: -Attributes are split into Mental/Physical/Social...list these from 0ne to Three in order of importance to your character (like 1/2/3). Now spread these points out: 6 to the first, 4 to the second, and 3 to the last (6/4/3). Since you already start with a dot in each chategory it's not to imperative to be equal, but remember one dot in something is below average. -Ok, Abilities are divided into Talents/Skills/Knowledges...rank these like above. Got it? Ok, this time the point spreads like this: 11/7/4. No ability can be made to have more than 3 dots at this point. Wrapping it Up: -Five points for Backgrounds. There are the normal White Wolf Backgrounds and:
- Choose your Creed, and spread your three Virtue points. The number of points in your Primary Virtue can never be exceeded by the number in another Virtue. -Mark down your Starting Conviction and WillPower (starts at 3). -Spend the 21 "Freebie Points": Attributes cost 5, Abilities cost 2, Backgrounds cost 1, Willpower costs 1, and Conviction costs 1 (Note: Does not buy up your Starting Conviction, merely the number of points your character starts his career with out of 10...and you can only buy up to 8). -Use your Virtue points to buy Edges, but remember you can never have an Edge higher than the Level of your Creed's current Edge rating. (ex. My Judge has just gotten the level two Judge Edge Burden. He can now get the second level Edge in another Creed, but he cannot get the level three Edge in another Creed until he buys Balance.) |
