Editor:
I have two observations about the post-election turmoil in Iran.
1) David Letterman’s recent remarks about Sarah Palin’s daughter were indeed tasteless and ill-considered. Here is my question: how many of the same people who were oh so indignant toward Letterman laughed and laughed at John McCain’s “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran” bit a few years ago? They rightfully saw no humor in the idea of Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez having sex with a 14-year-old, but they sure yucked it up over the wholesale slaughter of innocent Iranians.
2) How many people who now “stand in solidarity” with the Iranian people insisting on democratic reforms and civil liberties in Iran are the same people who, until about a month ago, supported pre-emptive war with Iran thus killing God knows how many innocent Iranians?
Does anyone else find these things ironic? Or should I say iranic?
