My Favorite Freaks and Geeks Episodes

By: Matt Phillips

Gee, this is going to be a difficult article to write, because i like everyone of the episodes, they are all terrific and very well written, produced, and acted. I guess I will have to make some choices here, it isn't easy. Well I guess my first fav is the first episode, the "Pilot". I feel that the pilot was extremely well written to introduce the characters and their individual characteristics. It is a great introduction to the series, and we are given a lot of information on the groups past. My hat goes off to Paul Feig for writing this wonderful episode.

Another one of my favorites is the "Tricks and Treats" episode. If you read last months article, it was the first episode I watched, and the only on NBC, but anyway, this was a good one. It was a good example of the struggles of growing up and trying to fit in. Sam goes "Trick or Treating" to recapture his childhood, but ends up with egg on his face, literally. Lindsey break a promise to hand out candy with her mother, and goes out to "raise hell" and ends up throwing eggs at Sam. This is a wonderful episode check it out.

Another one of my favorites is the "We've Got Spirit" episode. I love this episode because it is the first time Sam really shows his love for Cindy Sanders and she dosen't even notice. I also like this episode because it is when Lindsey first shows her feeling towards Nick, after its too late. This is very good example of high school spirit and peoples disgust about it.

The last episode I will mention is "Dead Dogs and Gym Teachers". This is a great one. I love the concept of Bill's gym teacher dating his mom. The concept is so created and the episode is so well written, that it makes it a classic. The episodes show how guilt can get to you, when Lindsey and Kim run over Millie's dog and don't tell her, which gets Millie into trouble. This is an excellent episode. Everyone should see it.

Looking At the Stars.......of Freaks and Geeks

By: Matt Phillips

Like the stars of any television series, the cast of Freaks and Geeks have played other roles besides those on Freaks and Geeks. In this article I will discuss some of the roles your favorite Freaks and Geeks have played. These are listings of the things that I have seen, and in most cases enjoyed.

Linda Cardellini has appeared in a number of roles before and after Freaks and Geeks. I first saw Linda in the 1998 movie "Dead Man on Campus" starring "Saved By the Bells" Mark Paul Gosler. Linda plays Kelly a student at the college who is the lover of Kyle played by none other than Jason Segel. This is a very funny movie, though Linda and Jason are only supporting roles. Go check it out.

Since I have already mentioned Jason Segel, I feel that I should mention one of his fine works. "SLC Punk" was quite a creative and strange film. It tells the tale of too geeks who become 1980's punks. Jason plays a supporting role as Mike in the film. This is a great movie, so please see it.

James Franco has a number of films under his belt too. One of his best known is his role as Jason Way in the 1999 movie "Never Been Kissed" starring Drew Barrymore. James has only a supporting role in the film, but clearly stands out. This is a great movie so see it ASAP.

And lastly I have to mention Joe Flaherty. Now we all know Joe as the loving father and husband on Freaks and Geeks, but just is also remembered for his role in the 1996 film "Happy Gilmore". Joe played Donald the jeering fan who calls Happy (Adam Sandler) a "jack-ass" while he is playing golf with Bob Barker. This was the first I knew of Joe Flahety and have been a fan ever since.
