The basic, universal theme behind animal rights is that since animal have their own personal intrests (not feeling pain or hunger, having it's social needs met, and being able to live as it's insticts tell it to) humans should respect these intrests. Instead we take advantage of animals' trusting nature. Just because they can not speak with the words we use, does not make them stupid creatures. It does not make them ours to do with as we please. Pretty much all animals communicate within their own species and often even outside of it. It seems like if animals of a different species can understand one another, maybe it's us who have the problem, perhaps we aren't listening or looking correctly. All animals want to do is not feel pain and live the life their bodies tell them they are supposed to live, such as grazing in an open field or living in a forset where they can roam. They don't want to hurt us, so why do we feel the need to exploit them at every turn? Part of the problem is we have forgotten that we too are animals. We are mamilians just as they are only we have evolved in a different way than them. People always try to put themselves at the top of the food chain where they feel safe and superior. But maybe we should stop feeling so insecure and realize they have as much, actually more of a right to be here than us. Number one, they aren't killing the planet, we are. They live off the land in harmony with all creatures. We destroy habitats of creatures, and push them to the very brink of survival. We hunt, trap, domesticate, throw them into captivity, and force them to be our slaves. All in the name of dominance, money, entertainment, science, food, and clothes. They are total slaves to our will... The animal rights movement is today's social movement, just as the abolishment of slavery or women's right to vote has been in the past. Some people might say that is a terrible comparison, that you can not compare african american slaves to how animals are treated today. Well then, I dare you to watch all of the videos on petatv.com and then rethink your former dislike of the comparison. Once again, we are animals.... so it was animals back then that suffereed... the human kind. So anyways, after that long winded bit, here are the animal rights categories: |
