A FIREFIGHTERS PLEDGE OF SERVICE |
I promise concern for others, a willingness to help all those in need. I promise courage - Courage to face, and conquer my fears. Courage to share and endure the ordeals of those who need me. I promise strength - Strength of heart to bear whatever burdens might be placed on me. Strength of body to deliver to safety all those placed within my care. I promise the wisdom to lead, the compassion to comfort, and the love to serve unselfishly when ever I am called to duty. |
The Volunteer Firefighter |
Volunteer firefighters are a breed unto themselves. Whoever heard of a man or woman who is willing to be on twenty-four hour duty without pay for the dubious privilege of protecting property ? Whoever heard of a man or woman who will dash from their warm bed and ride a "fire apparatus" to the scene of an alarm ruining his, or her clothing. Neglecting his or her personal time. Risking and exhausting themselves physically. Not for money, but because they believe in serving their community ? Whoever heard of a man or woman who will give up his or her favorite TV show, postpone some reading or some "do it yourself" house chores they have been planning. Plus sacrificing his or her evenings with their spouse, or children just to attend a training session where he or she learns how to function as a volunteer servent on behalf of their fellow man ? Whoever heard (in this day and age) of men and women who are crazy enough to be worrying about the other person ? Well, ....... if you don't know the answer to these questions look around our firehouse You will see people who are not out protesting, demonstrating, and complaining because they are to busy living up to the image of a good American. You will see people whose forefathers were made of the same stuff, and that's why we have inherited this wonderful land. You will see people just like yourself who care about what happens to their neighbors and there community, no matter what the time, the day, or the reason. |
