What to Expect
You will have a far more enjoyable trip if we provide some idea of what to expect while in St. Thomas:

--Beautiful views every way you turn--bring a camera with plenty of film or memory and have it with you at all times. You will not want to miss these shots!

--The locals are very friendly if you meet them on their terms. Acting like a "typical tourist" will not get you very far. They always greet each other with a friendly "good morning", "good afternoon" or "good evening". Doing this will always lift you a few notches above a "typical tourist" and get you far better service and response.

--There are many iguanas roaming around the hotel
properties. They are harmless and will not bother you.
If one gets too close, just shoo it away. They just add
to the local color. They like to sun themselves by the
pool and sleep in the palm trees. If you look up, you can
often see one hanging out.

--St. Thomas is a tropical island. Inherent to tropical islands are humidity, heat, and bugs. Bring plenty of sunscreen and bug spray. This means on occasion, hotel rooms or indoor facilities may have a faint musty smell. This doesn't mean they are dirty--it is a result of being a tropical island. Think of it as part of the charm of the place.

--Many places are open-air to take advantage of the natural sea breezes. Critical places are air-conditioned (like your hotel rooms and the wedding reception room). In other places there are fans and natural breezes. This may not be your ideal climate-control but it is part of the charm. Dress accordingly. It will be hot and you will sweat. Trust us, the views are worth it!

--Wicker and rattan are popular furniture materials here. 'Nuff said.

--Seaweed on beaches does not make them dirty.

--Food is expensive. There is just no getting around this. Everything is shipped in on boats or airplanes which adds to the costs. There is a small grocery store in Red Hook (several miles from our hotels) where you can stock up on snacks and bottled water.

--Liquor (especially rum) is extremely inexpensive as it is made locally.
