chapter 31 Emily: the girl who waited for Mr

Emily:  the girl who waited for Mr. Right.

She is the 11th of 12 children. Her father Paul is a physician  whose  Jewish father was also a physician and whose Irish mother was an RN.   Emily’s mother, Barbara, likewise was an RN. So Emily became a physician ,too, but specializing in pediatric medicine.

Emily is beautiful, charming, intelligent and spiritual,a graduate of Holy Cross College and the  Medical college of the University of Rochester. She was raised in a family of incredibly strong Catholic values, with powerful drives for high achievement, and in a climate of  authentic love which was openly demonstrated  and clearly unconditional.

She has a smile that can send sky  rockets a mile high. Her prospective father-in-law,another physician, told me at the wedding  ( at which I had the great joy to officiate)

thateven if he had a  “ bad “ day, he would be  uplifted  if his  intern, Emily, was coming.

Steve, the lucky groom and Mr. Right, is a devout and practicing  Lutheran very much aware of the Love of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. He told me that they had agreed  that there  would never be a day when they would not pray together.. He is intelligent and sensitive. He  “ choked up”  at the wedding Mass as he pronounced his touching vows to be faithful and loving to her all the days of her life.

Many perceptive and healthy young men had been attracted  to Emily and all had been found wanting. One wonders  why !  But then one can  look at the  lofty and beautiful standards her mother, Barbara, and her father,Paul had instilled in her. They, themselves, are a most eloquent example of what real love and Faith mean.  They have shown  Emily and anyone who knows  them what real marital love ought to be   --- and can be--- if only one can “SEE” what is really there. If only young lovers could see what these ones have seen.

Well, Emily saw  “IT.  She knew somehow that she must wait and trust in the Holy Spirit of  God. She KNEW He would never let her down !!!!

She believed:

a)     that  all she had to do was trust the Lord

b)     and to trust the beauty and reality passed on to her by  remarkable parents.

WHAT A LESSON !

Emily waited for Mr. Right and he came along in God’s good time. They now have three children  and are having  a “ ball”   in life.

God speed you, Emily and Steve. You’ve got it made.
