chapter 32 Thoughts on Monica

Thoughts on Monica's interview  with WaWa

                                       Mar.3, 1999  ABC

Even granting  that the party finally responsible for all the sadness, expense and suffering of this sordid mess is Clinton, one cannot avoid reaching some  kind of perception about  Monica.I watched  the softball interview for the full two hours. I saw Monica giggle. weep, lip-bite  and search the ceiling for the  " right " answer   I watched Barbara adopt the empathetic look and the sickening  overdone maternal posture.

I  could not believe that in this era after all the learning, praying and  moral articulation,  a woman can   (  on NATIONAL  television ) speak of basic morals  as if they didn't matter. It was as if truly adult and mature people  understand that the Ten Commandments no longer apply  and that  God told Moses that  after  the year 1999, the tablets   could be safely discarded.

This means that a modern woman  can lift her skirts, show  her heavy bottom with its   racy lingerie and believe that this is  just being  " cutsie "--- merely  a little  game playing  gesture!
She sees nothing inappropriate  in this kind of behavior.  What can be deduced from such an a-moral climate?

If one were  to limit the whole thing strictly to this sleasey couple, it would be simply   a case of two immature and narcississtic  persons indulging  their  shallow needs. But it becomes puzzling when  we see that this is the  PRESIDENT  of the United States, the most powerful man in the  world  who has been called  selfish, lustful, unthinking  and reckless, who purports to be deeply religious  and who  " cares " deeply about others. And Monica?   She fits easily  into the naturalistic, anything-goes-as-long-as-you-don't- get-caught  viewpoint.  Her dismissal  of  her  physical  ( read  sexual )  behavior with Clinton as just  " affectionate " and normal is  simply astonishing.

She did not have intercourse with  Slick Willie  and hence  ( in her mind ) she did not have sex with him.  Of course, she fully expected this ultimate expression of his  love for her---in due time.  One can  quickly deduce from her interview that she is probably a woman with NO real morals or principles  except the  shaky ones of  narcississm and hedonism. She apparently  knows little  of modesty which could correlate with her  frequent statements  about her own  " low self esteem."

Why does she have such a poor self image?  She did cavort with the American President ! And why does she flirt  with older  men?  Particularly older men who are married and who have  POWER? How is it that she can resolve a difficulty  ( an unwanted pregnancy from another man--in the midst of her  " relationship"  with Bubba)  with an abortion without a single thought of  an innocent baby's life? How is that she  will try to  persuade another woman to  lie  in order to protect herself from possible inconvenient  legal consequences?

She opines that Clinton is remorseful ONLY because he got caught. Otherwise, she implies, he would have gone on deceiving  the world. But what  about Monica? Does she show any real  signs of  remorse or guilt or regret?  It doesn't  look as if she does. She is sorry--not for moral discomfort---but because she has suffered from fear of imprisonment, public scandal and low class, trashy jokes. Is she upset because she  " departed" from God's will and law?
Maybe but it surely isn't obvious.

She  does show  evidence  of the  " poor me" syndrome, nbsp; surfacing  signs of the  Spoiled Brat who at 25 years of age is immature, demanding and  angry if she does not get her  own way.
What larger deduction can be made from this interview as  we   view the  Nation at present?

Probably, this is an indication of where we are in America  today. This woman is a reflection of the pragmatism  which dominates  much of American life. Just consider what  we see:
1. We should  never be denied what we want  here and now.
2. The end does justify the means
3. Don't get caught !  If you do,lie !
4. If everyone is doing it, it is OK.
5. Don't panic !  The public can be  conned. They  have a short memory!

I thought it was a sad and revolting interview. The one positive I saw was that it  bluntly shows the  truth of the  a-moral climate of our time. It  shows sadly  that the nonsense of the past 30 years  has borne fruit. In the late 60's  the avantgarde group  ( read  Liberal ) rejoiced  that the thinking of  the Monica and Bubba  types was  breaking through the crusts of the  creaky older generation. But we do know that history is inclined to repeat itself and it might be advantegeous for us to look honestly  at the damage which can be done if the  selfish trend in all of us is not carefully  appropropriately  constrained. Or in other words just review  or learn the Catholic teaching on Original sin. Some  might find this fascinating, liberating and wise.

(Ed. note:  cf the scandals in the  Catholic clergy and  Big Business of  2002 AD)

P.S.   Monica  revealed that she is learning knitting.  Suggestion: Get a pattern for the 16th century male genital ornamented garment so popular with Henry VIII. It was worn outside  the other garments.Make one for Bubba as a good will gesture with no angry feelings. But have the inner part  made of  iron  and after helping him don it,put a lock on it and throw the key into the Potamac.
