Til There Was You

Our mew names are McGee, Shirley and Sophie.
We wish to mew about our experiences pertaining
to the Melrose Humane Society which CLAW has
adopted.

McGee

This is one of the foster homes which board
cats until they are adopted. The owners of this
home have dedicated their lives to the care and
protection of stray and homeless cats.

Revere and his sister Goldie

This catsome cat is the most famous foster cat
Revere of MHS and he and his sister Goldie are
the two cats which CLAW sponsors from MHS.
He has lived in this foster home since he
and his sister were rescued by MHS. They were
not adoptable because of their shyness with humans.
They have lived in this foster home for eleven
years now and they love their foster home.

Sophie

The most famous residents of this home are Revere and his
sister who occupy a large finished room in the basement.
To allow natural light into this room, another foster
parent paid to have a window installed to let the cats
have a view of the outdoors and to let them see the sun,
snow and rain. The cats take turns laying in front of this
window where a table was placed to allow the cats to feel THE
WARMTH OF THE SUN and to snooze if they wish to. I shared
this room for one and one half years with Revere, his sister
Goldie and several other cats including the late-comer,
my new brother McGee.

Shirley

I have been at this foster home since I was a kitten. I lived in
the attic by myself because I was such a high energy cat that I
was disruptive to all of the other foster cats. My foster Meowmie
did not ignore the fact that I was alone because I received several
visitations per day from her and one of the other foster meowmies
who had her own foster home for the MHS.

McGee

If someone wishes to adopt a cat or kitten from MHS, they must
call for an interview to visit the cats and allow the foster
parent to get acquainted with the adoptive parents to make sure
their intentions are honorable and that they can provide a good
home which consists of food, shelter and love. They must also sign
an agreement to keep us as indoor kitties. I liked my new
parents immediately on first sight and gave Deowdie's legs fur
rubbings. My parents had come to adopt two girls. I made sure
that they would adopt a boy too! Sophie was a very shy cat and
our foster Meowmie said that it would be a good idea to adopt me
because she was used to being with me in the basement room.

Sophie

My foster home in Melrose is a large victorian style home.
It has a large entry hall, livingroom, diningroom and kitchen
on the main floor. My foster Meowmie has eight cats on
this floor which are her own personal family cats. They have
the run of the downstairs and are very much loved. One of the
eight cats is a loving calico who likes to wrap herself around
her meowmie's neck. This calico reminds me of my sister Shirley
because Meowmie told me that she likes to jump onto the top of the
fridge and onto the sink to get a drink from the faucet like Shirley.

Shirley

On the second floor are four large bedrooms. Two of them are used
for more foster rescues. They have screen doors so the cats can see
who is coming to visit or to take care of them. The basement also has
a screen door for the large room in the basement and I had a screen door
at the bottom of the attic stairs so that I could see who was coming to
visit me. As soon as my foster Meowmie called my name I came running
down the stairs to greet her. The two bedrooms house about seven to
eight cats in each. The other two bedrooms belong to my foster parents
and to a granddaughter when she stays overnight to visit. When I was
adopted the house had over twenty seven cats living there. When my
Meowmie and Deowdie visited the following week after our adoption to
return a carrier that they had to borrow because they had only brought
two carriers for us two girls, there were over forty cats in the house.
My parents needed an extra carrier for "you-know-who"...McGee :)

McGee

There are so many "ifs" about our adoption. The first if is:
If CLAW did not close for awhile and then come back re-organized
with a new motto "Purr And Serve" and to change it's mission to
sponsor two special humane societies, MHS and the Good Mews and
open a new Seminary to teach cats how to serve, support and honor
one another, Lloyd would not have set an example to his Meowmie to
purr and serve after she lost Lloyd's brother M&M to the Rainbow Bridge.

The second if is: If CLAW did not become a service for shelters like
MHS and the Good Mews Society, Lloyd would not have become involved
in sponsoring a special cat named Sophie from the MHS.

The third if is: If Lloyd had not passed away and had not pushed
out the thought of "no more cats" in Meowmie's head and heart,
we three cats would not have been adopted. Things change for a reason.
Change usually brings something better into our lives. Meowmie's love
of cats passed down to her from her mother and grandmother from
childhood has brought her joy and education of us felines and our
mysterious ways. She allows us three cats our
WARMTH OF THE SUN.

We three cats will continue Lloyd's sponsorship of a special cat at
MHS. Our wish is that all cats will and should receive their
WARMTH OF THE SUN.
