What I'll Do as President About Crime
We need to be tough on crime. In saying that, I would encourage all 50 governors to introduce "Three Strikes, And You're Out" legislation. If you're not familiar with the Three Strikes law, it basically states that if somebody has been convicted of a crime three times, they receive life in prison. Of course, punishment for the first and second "strikes" are handed down in an increasing degree of severity. I fully support the death penalty, because if a person chooses to betray our laws in such a way that a jury of one's peers deems it necessary then we should use it. However, I would grant each death row inmate one federal appeal and if that would fall through, then, of course, they would be executed soon afterward. But, obviously, we should do all that we can to make sure someone gets their full day in court before we start executing everybody. Yet, the full force of the law should come down upon those who prey upon our children and those who would betray and attack our country. However, in the cases of treason and/or terrorist attack, the accused would appear before a United States military court.
