September 12, 2001 Today as we wake, the reality of the destruction we witnessed yesterday digs deeper into our minds, hearts, and souls. The events that unfolded on our country's soil have given us an unexpected example of how little everything else means. Monday night we watched our favorite TV show, played our favorite video game, or ate our favorite night time snack...we said our goodnight's and our I love you's to the ones we cherish. Tuesday morning we made it in to work grumbling about our jobs, credit cards, and bad cell phone service. Around 9am co-workers began to spread news of a plane that crashed into the World Trade Center. Wow, we thought what could have caused this? Then the reports came in that a second plane had also hit the WTC. At this point the stark reality began to cross our minds that something was dreadfully wrong. As reports began to flood TV and radio stations that we were under terrorist attack.....WHAT? We are the United States of America, this can't be happening here! These were the thoughts that went through many Americans minds. The report of the plane crashing into the Pentagon all but concluded that our America..."Land of the Free and Home of the Brave" was under foreign attack. Suddenly, our very lives were changing right before our eyes. Attacking the WTC was an attack on all nations who considered it to be a symbol of freedom for the world. The attack on our Pentagon was an attack on The United States Of America. The Pentagon represents the backbone of our nation's defense. The reaction of our country was that of shock, which throughout the day slowly turned to that of anger. These terrorists had taken our pride and our fearlessness away, but only long enough to recognize what had happened. Today we return to work and school...in some cases, not because we want to...but because we HAVE to. We don't have to because our boss tells us we do. We must continue on to show these people that they cannot take away THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA. We will not let cowards such as these people break our spirit. I Love this country and I am sure everyone else out there does too! Today we must return to our lives with a renewed understanding that the small things are even smaller when put into the perspective that we all now possess. We as Americans need to stand strong for The Country that we love....Democrats, Republicans, Black, White, Male, Female........ we should put aside petty issues and understand that we are vulnerable when WE let ourselves become so. Be strong America stand up for your country, protect your loved ones, protect your friends and neighbors, if we all do this we can protect AMERICA!...If you don't have one, go get an American flag and display it with pride!!
