MK2 negotiated a deal with David Lynch for the 2 Disc
Collectors Edition of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. The DVD including 17 Deleted Scenes were supposed to be released in 2007, however, as history repeats itself, legal snags again have put this release in legal limbo.
We need your
Support and we need it NOW ! Gets those emails sent !
History of the
Deleted Scenes:
In August of 1992, the Movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me was released.
Although a true masterpiece in it's original form, many Twin Peaks fans were disappointed that some of their favorite characters from the
TV series did not appear in the movie. What you may not know is that early reports had indicated that nearly
all of series regulars went to Washington for the filming of the movie.
In
March of 2000, New Line DVD approached David Lynch and asked him if he would be
willing to allow the release of these deleted scenes to be included with
their upcoming Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me DVD. David Lynch gave the thumbs
up, but only to add these scenes as a supplement at the end of the disc, and
only if he could personally edit, transfer, and score each scene to match the
same quality as the movie itself.
At this time, Mr. Lynch personally hand
picked 17 scenes that he wished to be released with this DVD. In April
of 2000, he assembled a team to fully edit and score these scenes as short Twin
Peaks skits. Total running time on the Deleted Scenes was estimated at almost 1
hour ! Just before beginning the project, New Line asked that Mr. Lynch wait
until legal issues with the Rights Holder would clear.
In December of
2001, New Line made the decision
to NOT include the Deleted
Scenes, and to release the DVD without the Supplements that David Lynch has
chosen for this release citing budget and legal issues could not be resolved. At this point,
the fans had thought all was lost.
On February 7th, 2002,
MK2, the rights owners of the Deleted Scenes made an announcement that they plan
on releasing Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me on DVD.
On May 17th, 2002, MK2
said they will be talking with Lynch at Cannes to discuss the possibility of
including the Deleted Scenes on their upcoming disc. For 5 years, MK2 met with Lynch on and off to discuss having Lynch complete the much sought after Deleted Scenes to be included with the DVD release. In 2007, MK2 and Lynch reached an agreement, however, legal issues regarding cost and budget put the project back on hold.
What we are trying to do is let
MK2 know in massive, MASSIVE numbers how much we would like to have these scenes
included on this DVD.
Already because of FAN support, MK2 has been working with Lynch to make this
happen. We are hoping that if we can get enough people
to politely write or
email MK2 and let them know how important the inclusion of these scenes
would be, they will do what it takes to bring these deleted scenes to us on
their upcoming DVD.
The key to
making this happen is showing MK2 what type of support they have for
including these scenes !
I have recently
gotten emails from people outside of France asking about how they will obtain
these scenes once they are released. Please keep in mind that once the scenes
are actually mixed, and edited, and released by MK2, MK2 will be making them
available to all other territories including the United States. The key here,
however is getting them mixed and edited so that they exist period.
Keep in mind that
New Line/Warner Bros. only licenses the FWWM from MK2 and does not own the rights to the film
or the actual film elements.
Another popular idea is to send
emails to both MK2 and New Line/Warner Bros. asking the two companies to work together and
share the costs of the budget to make this happen. Either way, I can tell you
that Internet Email campaigns DO WORK!!! Look at the recent release of Star Wars
the Original Versions on DVD and the Superman II Richard Donner Cut.
