In
Pottstown, Pennsylvania on November 6, 1861,
Governor Curtain presented this state color to
the 96th Pennsylvania. It was carried with the
regiment through all of its campaigns and other
activities through February 22, 1864. On that
date, it was sent back to Pottsville for
safekeeping, but there are no records which show
if it was returned to the 96th. The flag had the
state arms in the center of the blue field with
golden stars surrounding it. On the middle red
horizontal stripe was painted in gold "96th
Regt. P. V."
