The Leader News-July 10, 1991; Alvina Christina Hoekstra, 74, 120 S. West St., Waupun, died Monday, July 1, 1991, at her home. Mrs. Hoekstra was born Jan. 14, 1917, in the town of Trenton, the daughter of Cornelius and Christina (Van Buren) Bronkhorst. She married William C. Hoekstra Sept. 29, 1939, at the Alto Christian Reformed Church, Alto, Wis. She was a member of Alto Christian Reformed Church and a member of its Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School for many years. Survivors include two sons, William J. (Ann) Hoekstra, Waupun, Bryon (Patricia) Hoekstra, Westmont, Ill;one daughter, Barbara Kay Hoekstra, Waupun; seven grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Bronkhorst, Alto,and two sisters, Marion (Lyle) Bresser and Catherine (Harold) De Motts, both of Waupun. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1973, one sister and two brothers. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Alto Christian Reformed Church, Dr. Alex De Jong officiating. Interment was in Alto Cemetery, Alto, Wis. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at Kohls Funeral Home, Waupun, and at the church on Wednesday from noon to the hour of service at 1p.m. |

William C. Hoekstra, Sr., 52, of rural Brandon died Wednesday afternoon at St. Agnes Hospital an apparent heart attack at Mercury Marine where he was employed. Born in the Town of Alto in 1921, he was a son of Alec and Bessie Ren Hoekstra. He married Alvina Bronkhorst on Sept. 29, 1940. Mr. Hoekstra resided in Alto all his married life. He was a member of Alto Christian Reformed Church, Men's Society, was a former Sunday school teacher and former deacon at that church. Survivors are his widow; a daughter Barbara at home two sons, William J., Waupun, Bryon of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.: two grandchildren; his father and step-mother, Alec and Gertrude Hoekstra of Brandon; two sisters, Mrs. Otto Kamphuis and Mrs. Horace Veleke both of Waupun; and a brother, John of Waupun. Furenal service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alto Christain Reformed Church with the Rev. Gerald DeVries officiating. Burial will be in Alto Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Norris Funeral home in Brandon and at the church from noon Saturday until the time of services. |
