Bernice Navis, 62, of Brandon died Thursday, April 11, 1996. She was born Dec. 11, 1933, in the town of Alto, the daughter of Garret and Lucy Grotenhuis Hopp. On June 24, 1955, she married Maynard Navis in Alto. The couple farmed all of their married life in the Alto-Brandon area. Bernice was involved with the AFS, 4-H, Alto Fair, bowling secretary, Avon Cosmetics and Watkins. She was a member of the Bethal Reformed Church in Brandon where she was a past Sunday School teacher, choir member and member of the Ladies Guild. She is survived by her husband, Maynard; three daughters, Barbara (John) Heidt of Berlin, Mary Navis of Brandon and Lisa Navis, of Oshkosh; two sons, Gary (Marlene) Navis of Brandon and Byron (Linda) Navis of Brandon; six grandchildren, Michael and Kristi Heidt, Greg and Janell Navis, and Christopher and Andrew Navis; two sisters; Laverne Wellhouse of Brandon and Grace (Jack) Browne of Waupun; two brothers, Howard (Annette) Hopp of Ripon and Reuben (Betty) Hopp of Brandon; nieces, nephews, an aunt and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Funeral services were held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethal Reformed Church in Brandon with the Rev. Ken Petty officiating. Burial followed at Alto Cemetery in Alto. Friends and relatives could call at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Monday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. |
