Cornelius Van Buren, 77, a resident of Continental Manor Nursing Home in Randolph died Tuesday, June 6, 1995, at Waupun Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1918, in the Town of Chester, the son of Jake and Gertrude Derksen Van Buren. On March 15, 1941, he married Florence Bos in Waupun. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Waupun all their married life. Mr. Van Buren farmed for 24 years and later was an implement dealer for 18 years. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun and the Men's Brotherhood. Survivors include four sons, Jerome (Sandra) Van Buren of Waupun, Kurt Van Buren of Waupun, Herbert (Diane) Van Buren of Fond du Lac, and Daniel (Dawn) Van Buren of Waupun; two daughters, Judith (Robert) West, Jr. of Waupun and Barbara (Charles) Landaal, Jr. of Waupun; 13 grandchildren; eight-grandchildren; one brother, Jacob Van Buren of Waupun; five sisters, Gertrude Van Buren of Waupun, Jennie (Wilbert) Pluim of Waupun, Annie Van Buren of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mildred (Alex) Wynstra of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Cora (Leonard) Kwekel of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, in 1992; one daughter-in-law, Joanne Van Buren; and one brother, Herman. Funeral services for Mr. Van Buren were held Friday at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun with Rev. Norman Haan officiating. Burial followed at Alto Cemetery in Alto. Friends and relatives could call at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the church from noon until the hour of service. |

The Leader News-May 13, 1992; Florence Van Buren, 71, Waupun, died Tuesday, May 5, 1992, at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee. Mrs. Van Buren was born July 21, 1920, in Stickney, S.D., the daughter of Tony and Trina (Kuening) Bos. On March 15, 1941, she married Cornelius Van Buren in Waupun. Following their marriage the couple resided in Waupun all their married life. She was employed by Ideal Shoe Factory in Waupun for 16 years retiring in 1975. She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun where she was active in the Ladies Aid and the Golden Hour. She was also active with the Christian Day School and the Central Wisconsin Christian High School in Waupun. She is survived by her husband; four sons, Jerome (Sandra) Van Buren, Kurt Van buren, Herbert Van Buren, and Daniel (Dawn) Van Buren, all of Waupun; two daughters, Judith (Robert) West Jr., and Barbara (Charles) Landaal, Jr., both of Waupun; one brother, John C. Bos, Waupun; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Funeral serices were held Friday at the church from noon until the time of service. |
