FRIESLAND-Vernette Katsma, 72, passed away on Saturday, June 25, at the Continental Manor in Randolph.
Vernette was born on Sept. 29, 1932, in Dodge County, the daughter of William and Tena (Hoffman) Dykstra. She was united in marriage to Dewey S. Katsma on Nov. 9, 1956, in Friesland, where they lived all their married life. She was formerly employed as a seasonal worker with Jack's Pride Farm and Larsen's Canning Co. Vernette was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved visiting with her family and friends. She made meal times extra special with her homemade rolls and applesauce. She loved shopping for Christmas gifts year round and made every holiday special. Vernette was a gardener and her love for flowers will continue through her family. She was a longtime member of the First Randolph Christian Reformed Church and belonged to the Martha Circle.
Vernette is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dewey, Friesland; five children, Sharry (Rick) Stiemsma, Randolph; David (Mary) Katsma, Cambria; Karen (George) Aalsma, Doug (Peggy) Katsma, both of Waupun, and Dan (Kathy) Katsma, Cambria; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Katsma, Randolph; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Harold (Elaine) Dykstra, Fond du Lac; four sisters, Eldred (Bob) Scott, Delavan, Sandra (Dale) Ruston, Rosholt, Wis., Judy (Bob) VanOoyen, McHenry, Ill., and Debra (Gordon) Patrouille, Waupun.
She was preceded in death by one son, Donald, in July of 2000, and her parents.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at the First Randolph Christian Reformed Church in East Friesland. The Rev. Robert Brenton will officiate. Burial will follow in the Friesland Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday, June 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Randolph Community Funeral Home, 208 S. High St., Randolph, and again on Tuesday, June 28, at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
A memorial fund has been established for the Randolph Christian School and Central Wisconsin Christian School.
