Daily Citizen-June 17, 1996; Earl Herman Van Buren, 77, formerly of N9828 County Trunk W, Fox Lake, died Friday, June 14, 1996 at the Christian Home, Waupun. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 18, at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's Ev. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam. The Rev. Mark Lindner will officiated. Burial will be in Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. Mr. Van Buren was born April 8, 1919 in Fond du Lac County, son of William and Johanna (Van Loenen) Van Buren. He wasmarried to Esther Wetzel on May 25, 1945 and later to Shirley Rose Schmidt on April 11, 1953 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, Fox Lake. He was a farmer for many years, then drove a school bus for many years for the Beaver Dam School District. He was a member of St. Stephen'sEv. Lutheran Church, Beaver Dam and the Antique car Club. Survivors include one daughter, Emily (Peter) Schmidtfranz of Markesan; two sons, Mark Van Buren and Neal (Diane) Van Buren both of Fox Lake; three sisters, Jennie Van Buren of Waupun, Minnie Frey of Mayville, Millie (Melvin) Holbach of Waupun; two brothers, Elmer (Josie) Van Buren and John Van Buren both of Waupun; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther in 1951; his second wife, Shirley in 1992; one brother; one sister; three grandchildren. Friends may call on Monday, June 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam, and on Tuesday, June 18, from 12 p.m. from 12 p.m. to the time of service at the church. |

Mrs. Esther Van Buren, 30, a resident of the Town of Trenton, passed away at the Memorial hospital, at Waupun, at 7:15 a.m. today. She was taken suddenly ill, at her home, at 10:00 p.m. Friday, and was immeditay taken to the hospital. The body will lie in state at the Kratz Funeral Home, Fox Lake, from 6:00 p.m., Monday until the hour of the funeral services, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at St. John's Lutheran church, Fox Lake. The pastor, Rev. G.W. Zunker, will officate. Surviving are her husband, Earl, a daughter, Emily, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wetzel, all of the Town of Trenton. A sister, Marcella, preceded him in death. Esther Wetzel was born in the Town of Trenton on April 5, 1921. She lived in that township until her marriage, on May 27, 1945, to Earl VanBuren. They resided in the Town of Westford for two years and then returned to the Town of Trenton. |

Mrs. Van Buren was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Dodge County, the daughter of Elmer B. and Rosa (Blum) Schmidt. She married Earl Van Buren April 11, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fox Lake. She was an active member of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of its Ladies Aid, and a member of the Trenton Homemaker Club. She was a beautician for 40 years. Survivors include her husband, Earl, two sons, Mark Van Buren, and Neal (Elizabeth) Van Buren, both of Fox Lake; one daughter, Emily (Peter) Schmidtfranz, Markesan; six grandchildren, Dawn Franke, Paul Schmidtfranz, Peter John Schmidtfranz all of Markesan, Thomas Lee Mitchell, Jr., Kentucky, Stacy Van Buren and Nicholas Van Buren, both of Fox Lake; one sister, Donna Hansen, Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded by her parents, three grandchildren, Stella Van Buren, Pamela and Patrick Schmidtfranz. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fox Lake, the Rev. Leon Ehlert officiating. Interment was in Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. Visitation was held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Koepsell Funeral Home, Beaver Dam and on Wednesday at the church from noon until the hour of service. |
