She was born August 12, 1909 in the town of Alto, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, and died March 21, 1949 Madison General Hospital, Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. Mrs. Elmer Van Buren Died Tuesday: Had Been Recovering From Polio Mrs. Elmer Van Buren, 39, who had been confiries to St. Agnes anf the Wisconsin General hospital since Oct. 2, 1948, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Wisconsin General hospital. Mrs. Van Buren was stricken with poliomyletis last fall, entered St. Agnes hospital for treatment, and was confined to an iron lung for several weeks. She was moved to the Wisconsin General hospital on Jan. 30 when the polio ward at St. Agnes hospital was closed. She was improving slowly and was able to spend some time in a wheel chair. Sunday the family was informed that she had contracted pneumonia and that she had again been placed in the iron lung. A son, Paul, who was also ill with polio, returned from St. Agnes hospital in January. Mrs. Van Buren, the former Harriet Veleke, was born Aug 12, 1909, in the town of Alto, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Veleke. She was graduated from the Brandon High school and from the Fond du Lac County Normal school and taught rural schools for several years. She was married to Mr. Van Buren Sept. 15, 1932, and the couple resided on a farm in the town of Alto since that time. Survivors include the widower, six children, Rachel, Agnes, Earl, Paul, Nelda, and Donna, who was born serveral days after her mother became ill; four sisters, Mrs. Lester Daane of Sheboygan Falls, Mrs. Martin Braaksma of Waupun, Mrs. Melvin Van Buren of Brandon, and Mrs. Gordon Te Beest of Waupun; and one brother, Milton, also of Waupun. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the family home in the town of Alto, and at 2 p.m. in the Alto Reformed church. The Rev. J. C. Van Wyk will officiate at the services and burial will be made in the Alto cemetery. |
