Waupun Leader News-Nov. 23, 1963; A lifelong resident of the area, Evert M. Van Buren, Alto died at the age of 82, at his home. Mr. Van Buren was born Oct. 28, 1880 in the Town of Alto. He farmed in the Town of Alto until 12 years ago when he moved to the Village of Alto. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Manus Van Buren, Mr. Van Buren married Hannah Loomans Sept. 24, 1909 in Alto. He was a member of the Alto Christian Reformed Church. Survivors include his wife, three daughters - Mrs. Bert Lont, rural Fox Lake, Mrs. George Navis, Waupun; and Mrs. Harland Hansen, Pine River; two sons-Arthur, Waupun and Marvin, rural Beaver Dam; a sister, Mrs. Henry Hopp, Waupun; a brother, Garret, Waupun; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children; three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held from Beyers Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. at the Alto Christian Reformed Church. Rev. William Dykstra will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Alto Cemetery. |

The Waupun Leader News-Sept. 28, 1967; Mrs. Evert M. Van Buren, 78, the former Hannah Looman, a resident of Alto, died Saturday, Sept. 16, in Waupun Memorial hospital. Mrs. Van Buren was born Sept. 22,1888, in the town of Alto, the daughter of Aaron and Rachel Van Loo Looman. She was married Sept. 24, 1909, in the town of Alto where they farmed until their retirement in 1950, moving to the Village of Alto. Her husband died Nov. 19, 1962. She was a lifelong member of the Alto Christian Reformed church, and a member of the Ladies Aid society. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one daughter, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two sisters. Survivors - include three daughters; Mrs. Bert Lont, Waupun; Mrs. George Navis, Waupun; and Mrs. Harland Hansen, Pine River; two sons; Arthur Van Buren, Waupun; Marvin Van Buren, Alto; 24 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two brothers; Henry Looman, Brandon; John Looman, Brandon; and five sisters; Mrs. Dena Schouten, Mrs. Hattie Visser, Mrs. Steven Westhuis and Mrs. Arthur Klumpers, all of Waupun; and Miss Fannie Looman, Brandon. Her body lay in state in the Beyers funeral home. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Geels in Alto Christian Reformed church Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Alto cemetery. Pallbearers include Glen Navis, Arlyn Navis, Wayne Van Buren, Edward Van Buren, Kenneth Hansen and Dennis Hansen. |

The Neighbors-April, 10, 1999; Jennie Lont, 85, a resident of the Christian Home, Waupun, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at the home. The funeral was Tuesday, April 6, at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Norman Haan officiated. Burial was in Alto Cemetery, Alto, Wis. Mrs. Lont was born April 15, 1913, in Waupun, daughter of Evert and Johanna (Loomans) Van Buren. She was married to Bert Lont on April 4, 1941. She and her husband farmed in the Town of Trenton and then lived in the city of Waupun for many years. After her husband's death, she resided at Friendship Haven in Waupun and later at Riverdale Manor Nursing Home in Markesan, then moved to the Christian Home, Waupun, recently. She was also a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun. Survivors include two brothers, Arthur Van Buren of Waupun, and Marvin (Ethel) Van Buren of Brandon, Wis.; and one sister, Marie (Harland) Hansen of Pine River, Wis., She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 26, 1990, her parents, one brother; and two sisters. Friends called on Tuesday, April 6, at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. |

Mr. Bert Lont, 80, 525 McKinley Street, Waupun, died Monday, Feb. 26, 1990, at the Christian Home in Waupun .where he has been a resident for the past few years. Mr. Lont was bom Sept. 20, 1909, in Waupun the son of the late Jake and Clara (Bosma) Lont He married Jennie Van Buren on April 4, 1941. The couple fanned in. the town of Trenton and later moved to the city of Waupun where he worked for Pautsch Motors and for other businesses. He, was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Waupun, where he was an elder, Sunday school teacher and a member of the men's society. Survivors include his wife Jennie, Waupun; three brothers, Peter Lont and Chester (Jeanette) Lont, both of Waupun, and Dewey (Cornelia) Lont, Grand Rapids, Mich.; several nieces.and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Reformed Church, Waupun, with Rev. Gerald Van Den Berg officiating. Burial followed in Alto Cemetery, Alto. Visitation was held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Werner-Harmser Funeral Home, Waupun, and at the church or Thursday from noon until the 1:30 p.m. hour of service. |
