Freeman Smits
Mr. Freeman Smits, 63, 108 Green St., Fox Lake, passed away Sunday evening, April 28, 1974, from an apparent heart attack. He was D.O.A. at the Waupun Memorial Hospital where he had been transported by the Fox Lake Rescue Unit.
The late Mr. Smits was born October 1, 1910, the son of Henry and Anna Van Buren Smits, near Brandon in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
He was married to Anna Loose on May 31, 1930.
He resided in the Waupun area his early life, and then farmed in the Town of Trenton, near Atwater, and since 1959 had resided in the City of Fox Lake.
He is survived by his widow, Fox Lake, one daughter, Delores, Mrs. Marvin Graff, Waupun; one son, Kenneth Smits, Waupun, and three grandchildren, Peggy (Mrs. David Scheuers) and Brian and Pamilla Smits; one brother, Doyle Smits, Waupun, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Peters and Mrs. John (Jennie) Heideman, both of Waupun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Mrs. Garrit Brink.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 1, 1974, at 2 p.m. from the Kratz Funeral Home, Fox Lake, with the Rev. Walter Ludwigsen officiating. Interment at Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun.
The Kratz Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Smits was born March 11, 1909, in the town of Sherman, Wis., the daughter of William and Anna (Stock) Loose. She married Freeman Smits, May 31, 1930, in Waupun. She was employed by the former Ideal Shoe Company in Waupun until her retirement. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun.
Survivors include one son Kenneth (Joanna) Smits, Waupun; three grandchildren, Peggy (David) Schears, Smyran, Tenn., Pamela Smits, Oshkosh, and Brian (Bernie) Smits, Waupun; two great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, at 1 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Waupun, Rev. Randall J. Metz officiating. Interment was in Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. Vistation was held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Kohls Funeral Home, Waupun and at the church on Thursday from noon to the hour of service.
