Mr. Garret Hopp, 81, a resident of Riverdale Manor Nursing Home, Markesan, died Wednesday, July 8, 1987 at the nuring home. Mr. Hopp was born May 8, 1906 in the Town of Trenton, the son of Henry and Jane Van Loo Hopp. On Sept. 8, 1931, he married Lucy Grotenhuis in Alto. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Alto-Brandon area all their married life until retiring. Garret also worked for Hopp Builders. He was a member of the Alto Reformed Church in Alto and the Men's Brotherhood. Survivors include three sons, Howard Hopp, and Reuben Hopp, both of Brandon and Jerome Hopp of Ripon; three daughters, Mrs. Maynard (Bernice) Navis and Mrs. Wallace (LaVerne) Wellhouse, both of Brandon and Mrs. Jack (Grace) Browne of Waupun; 24 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Hopp of Waupun; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Henrietta) Navis of Waupun. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1982, one son, and three brothers. Funeral services were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Alto Reformed Church, Alto. The Rev. Robert Otto officiated. Burial followed at the Alto Cemetery. Friends were able to call at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service. |

Lucy Hopp, 75, Rt. 2, Brandon, died June 1 at her home. She was born Oct. 27, 1906, at Baldwin, WI, the daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth Hopp Grotenhuis. She married Garret Hopp at Alto on Sept. 8, 1931. The couple farmed in the Alto-Brandon area. Hopp was a member of Alto Reformed Church, Women's Missionary Society and Guild. Survivors include her widower; three daughters, Bernice Navis and LaVerne Wellhouse, both of Brandon, and Grace Browne, Waupun; three sons, Howard and Ruben, both of Brandon, and Jerome, Ripon; six sisters, Cora Hauschidt and Bessie Bartlett, both of Ellsworth; Mae DeYoung and Paerl Grotenhuis, both of Baldwin, Clara Harmsen and Irene Hopp, both of Waupun; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother George Grotenhuis, River Falls. A son and two infant brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at Alto Reformed Church. The Rev. Cornie Keunen officiated and burial was in Alto Cemetery. Friends of Hopp called at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun, and at the church. |

Donald Hopp, 2, Dies After Brief Illness Donald, the 2 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Hopp who lived northwest of Alto, died about 6:30 Monday night as his parents were rushing him to Fond du Lac for Medical attention. The child's death followed a series of violent convulsions. Apparently in his usual good health Monday, the child was stricken suddenly while at play shortly before noon. When no relief could be obtained for the baby, he was rushed to Fond du Lac late in the afternoon, but he died before reaching there. Funeral services were held this afternoon from the home, with the Rev. J. H. Kregel officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Hopp have one other child, a baby of a few months. |
