Garret John Riel was born May 09, 1927 in Alto, Fond du Lac County,   Wisconsin, and died March 29, 2001 in Waupun Christian Home, Waupun, Dodge County, Wisconsin.  He married Johanna (Jo) Florence Aarts PRIVATE.  She was born PRIVATE. WAUPUN - Garret J. Riel, 73, of Waupun, died on Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Christian Home, Waupun. The funeral will be held on Monday, April 2, at 2 p.m., at Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Rev. Kenneth Spence will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 210 firing squad. Mr. Riel was born on May 9, 1927, in Alto, the son of John and Winnie (Searvogel) Riel. He was married to Johanna "Jo" Aarts. Mr. Riel served in the U.S. Army in Germany during World War II, from July 9, 1945 to Dec. 22, 1946. He worked as a carpenter for Home Contractors for 32 years. He was a member of Bentley-Hull VFW Post No. 6709 for 20 years and a member of the Getchel-Nelson American Legion Post No. 210 for 38 years. He was a member of Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. Survivors include his wife, Johanna "Jo" Riel, Waupun; two daughters, Debra Riel and Angela (Scott) Fairbank, both of Waupun; three grandchildren, Betty Fairbank, Erinn Fairbank and Patricia Nieuwdort; three brothers, James (Alice) Riel, Walter (Katherine) Riel and Wilbert (Joyce) Riel, all of Waupun; three sisters, Angeline Abel, Mayville, Johanna (Kenneth) Der Stratte, Oostburg, and Haleta (Cliff) Otte, Sheboygan Falls; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters, and one son-in-law. Friends may call on Monday, April 2, from noon until the time of service, at Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. Memorials may be made to Pella Lutheran Church, Waupun. The Kohls Community Funeral Home, Waupun, is serving the family.
