Alto Native Dies After Brief Illness
Garret M. Van Buren, 76, 108 West Street, died Saturday, Oct. 12, at Waupun Memorial hospital after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 22, 1892, in the Town of Alto, the son of Manus and Jennie Van Buren.
He married Hannah Vande Zande, Aug. 30, 1916, at Alto, who preceded him in death Jan. 13, 1964. Survivors include two daughters, Mabel, at home; Mrs. Allan Harmsen, Rt. 2, Waupun; two sons, Reuben, Alto; Glenn, Waupun, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Hopp. He was preceded in death besides his wife, by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
After their marriage they lived and farmed in the Town of Trenton. For the past 21 years they lived in Waupun. He was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed church and had been employed by the Midwest Mineral Feed company for the past several years.
His body was in state at Beyers funeral home Sunday afternoon and evening. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. from the Emmanuel Reformed church with the Rev. Frederic Dolfin officiating. Burial was in Alto cemetery.
Music was by the Vande Zande quartet. Pallbearers were six nephews; herman Hopp, Sidney Frens, Henry Gerretson, Alan Braskamp, Walter Harmsen and Russell Bresser.

Mrs. Garret Van Buren
Funeral services for Mrs. Garret Van Buren were held Jan. 15 at the Emmanuel Reformed Church.
Rev. Abraham Rynbrandt conducted the service. Burial was in Alto cemetery.
Mrs. Van Buren, died at her home, 108 West street. Jan. 13 following a lengthy illness. The former Hannah Vande Zande was born Dec. 6, 1892 in Waupun, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reyer Vande Zande. She married Mr. Van Buren Aug. 4, 1916.
Survivors include her husband, two daughters - Mabel at home, and Mrs. Allan Harmsen, Waupun; two sons - Reuben, Brandon, and Glen, Waupun; two sisters - Mrs. William Braskamp and Mrs. John Besser, both of Waupun; six brothers - Ben, Garret and Henry, all of Waupun, John, Brandon, Delmar, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Roy, Town of Fox Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
The Beyers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

RANDOLPH - Mabel Van Buren, a resident of Continental Manor Nursing Home, Randolph, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1996 at the home.
The funeral was Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home, Waupun. The Rev. Robert Hekhuis officiated. Burial was in Alto Cemetery, Alto, Wis.
Mrs. Van Buren was born March 8, 1917 in Dodge County, daughter of Garret and Hannah (Vande Zande) Van Buren.
She worked for Carnation Company in Waupun for 19 years, Ideal Shoe Factory for 15 years and then retired from Kolpins in Fox Lake after 10 years. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, Waupun, where she had been a member of the Woman's Guild and sang in the choir and the Ladies Chorus.
Survivors include one brother, Glenn (Aggie) Van Buren of Waupun; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and one brother.
Friends called on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the funeral home.
