Mrs. Gertrude Westerveld, 87, Rt. 2, Brandon, died Sunday at Waupun Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 24, 1892 in the Town of Alto, the daughter of Allen and Edith Harmsen Peters. On Sept. 20, 1917, she married George Westerveld in Alto. The couple farmed in the Alto area most of their married life until they moved to the village of Alto in 1957.
Mrs. Westerveld was a member of the Alto Reformed Church where was a member of the Women Guild and Women's Missionary Society.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Gladys) Ter Beest or rural Brandon, one grandson, and one sister, Mrs. John Hagens of Waupun. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, one daughter, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services for Mrs. Westerveld will be held Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Alto Reformed Church with the Rev. Cornie Keunen officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery in Alto.
Friends and relatives of Mrs. Westerveld may call at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from noon until time of services.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alto Reformed church for George Westerveld, 82, a resident of Alto, who died Saturday, August 29, in Waupun Memorial hospital. The Rev. Richard Bouwkamp officated. Burial was in Alto cemetery.
Mr. Westerveld was born Sept. 10, 1888, in the Town of Alto, the son of William and Jane Veenendaal Westerveld. A member of Alto Reformed church, he lived on a farm in the Brandon-Alto area for 10 years proir to retiring.
Survivors include his widow; the former Gertrude Peters; two daughters, Agnes, at home, and Mrs. Leonard Ter Beest, Brandon; one grandson; two brothers, William, Brandon, and Arnold, Alto; and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Veenendaal, Brandon.
