Mrs. Ivan Schouten, 45, died Saturday afternoon at St. Agnes hospital following a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Alto Reformed church, with the Rev. LeRoy Sandes officiating. Burial was in the Alto cemetery. Mrs. Schouten, the former Halieta Van Buren, was born, July 15, 1915, in the town of Alto, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Van Buren. She was married to Mr. Schouten Sept. 22, 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Schouten had farmed in the town of Alto since their marriage. She was a member of the Alto Reformed Church, and of the Women's Missionary society and the Ladies Guild of the church. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Bonnie, at home, her mother, Mrs. John Van Buren, and a brother, Ellsworth, all of the town of Alto. She was preceded in death by her father. Mrs. Schouten was in state at Beyers Funeral home Monday afternoon and evening. Serving as pallbearers were Barrie Tenpas, Melvin Van Buren, Elmer Bronkhorst, Ralph Beek, Cornelius Damsteegt, and Jerry Vossekuil. |

Ivan "Ike" Schouten, 79, 927 Rock Ave., Waupun, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1992, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center in Fond du Lac. Mr. Schouten was born Nov. 6, 1912, in the town of Alto, the son of Dick and Ida (Vande Zande) Schouten. In 1936, he married Halieta Van Buren in Alto. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Alto area all their married life. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1961. On Feb. 14, 1963, he married Vernida (Aylesworth) Towne in Waupun. Following their marriage the couple farmed until 1978 at which time the couple moved to Waupun. He drove school bus for Edmunds Bus Service for three years. He was a member of Alto Reformed Church in Alto. Survivors include his wife Verndia, Waupun; one daughter, Bonnie (Kevon) Keepers, Lone Rock, Wis; one stepson, David Towne, Oshkosh; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister Lucille Tenpas, Alto. He was preceded in death by his first wife and his parents. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Alto Reformed Church in Alto, with the Rev. Robert Otto officating. Burial followed in Alto Cemetery in Alto. Visitation was held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. |
