James Dick Riel was born July 29 1916, Town of Alto, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin; died April 5, 2003, Grancare Nursing and Rehab, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.  He married LaVern Edna Voskuil PRIVATE.  She was born PRIVATE.

James D. Riel, 86, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday evening, April 5, 2003, at Grancare Nursing and Rehab in Fond du Lac.
He was born the son of Jake and Johanna Scheauers Riel on July 29, 1916, in the Town of Alto. James married LaVern Voskuil.
Following their marriage, the couple resided in Waupun where Jim was employed at National Rivet for about six years. He and LaVern moved to the Ripon area where they farmed for 18 years. He left farming and moved to Fond du Lac, where he was employed by Mercury Marine, from which he retired in 1980.
Jim was a veteran of the United States Army. He was committed to his Saviour and was a member of Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, LaVern of Fond du Lac; a son, Ervin (Karlen) Pinnow of Waupun; two daughters, Betty (Earl) Daane of Winter Haven, Fla. and Linda (Darryl) Zick of Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Riel and Gordon (Jean) Riel, all of Waupun; and a sister, Jessie (Gordon) Perry of Waupun.
James was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Services: Funeral services for James D. Riel will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Grace Reformed Church in Fond du Lac, with the Rev. Barry Vegter officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery in the Town of Alto.
Visitation: Friends and relatives of James D. Riel may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today, April 7, 2003, at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the church. Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home of Waupun is serving the family.
