John H. Vant Hoff, 77, 199 Brandon Street, a farmer in the Waupun arae until his retirement in 1963, died early Wednesday, July 9, in Waupun Memorial Hospital, following a short illness. He was born April 5, 1898, in the town of Alto, a son of Jacob and Bessie Ten Hoppe Vant Hoff. He was married to the former Lucy Hopp Sept. 20, 1922, in the town of Alto. The couple moved to Waupun Oct. 1, 1963. Mr. Vant Hoff was a member of First Reformed Church where he had served as an elder and deacon. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Roy Ter Beest, Markesan; Mrs. Joe Sjoerdsma, Waupun; and Mrs. Ed Kloostra, Burnett; two sons, Ellsworth, at home; and Howard, Randolph; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, James, Waupun; and three sisters, Mrs. A. C. Vande Zande and Mrs. Frances Henken, Waupun; and Mrs. Elizabeth Loomans, Alto. He was preceded in death by his wife in July 1973; and one son, a brother, a sister and a great-grandchild. Funeral services for Mr. Vant Hoff were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at First Reformed Church. The Rev. Arnold Dykhuisen officiated. Burial was in Forest Mound Cemetery. Visitation was held at Kohls Company Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and at the church from Saturday Noon until the hour of services. |

Mrs. John H. Vant Hoff, 76, a resident of 199 Brandon St., died at her home early Monday, July 2, of an apparent heart attack. She was born Oct. 25, 1896 in the Town of Waupun, a daughter of Manus and Lizzie Harmsen Hopp. The former Lucy Hopp was married Sept. 20, 1922, in the Town of Alto. They farmed in the Towns of Alto and Waupun until 1963 when Mr. Vant Hoff retired and they moved to Waupun. Mrs. Vant Hoff was a member of First Reformed church and its Mission Society. Survivors include her widower: three daughters, Mrs. Roy Ter Beest, Alto; Mrs. Joe Sjoerdsma and Mrs. Ed Kloostra, both of Waupun; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marvin Vant Hoff; two sons, Ellsworth at home and Howard of Randolph; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ed Hopp, Waupun. She was preceded in death by a son, Marvin, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at First Reformed church, the Rev. Donald Boss officiated. Burial was in Forest Mound cemetery. Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Kohls Co., Funeral Home, and at the church from noon Thursday until the hour of services. |
