The Leader News-May 2 & 3, 1989: Gerrit Veenhuis, age 79, 1040 Maple Avenue, Waupun, died Thursday, April 27, 1989 at his home. Mr. Veenhuis was born Sept. 29, 1909, in the Town of Alto, the son of John and Jennie (De Motts) Veenhuis. He married Josephine Vant Hoff Sept. 4, 1934 in the Town of Waupun. He attended Madison Rural School. He farmed after his marriage in the Town of Waupun and moved to Waupun in 1956. He worked for National Rivet Mfg., until his retirement. He was a charter member of Trinity Reformed Church, Waupun. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Josephine; one son, Rev. Robert Veenhuis and his wife Elaine of Dundee, Ohio; three granddaughters, Mrs. Laurie & Erac Levenggod of Stracburg, Ohio, Mrs. Janet & Jeffrey Steitzman of Millersburg, Ohio, and Mrs. Renee and Rev. Kenneth Gentzler of Blanchester, Ohio; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey & Margaret Veenhuis of Waupun. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Reformed Church, Waupun, the Rev. Louis Buytendorp officiating. Burial was in Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. Visitation was held on Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Kohls Funeral Home.
