Brearly St., Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. Linda J. Understock, born December 28, 1869 in Town of Lowell, Dodge County, Wisconsin; died April 28, 1953 in St. Mary's Hospital, Columbus, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Mrs. Josephine Understock aged 87 yrs, 2 months 11 days, passed away at her home in Lowell, Wis., Jan 11th after an illness of only days, death being due to Lagrippe. Deceased was born in Osthein Alsace on Dec. 31, 1828. She came to America in 1853 and located in Lowell, Wis., and was married to Joseph Understock the same year. She was a women of sterling quailties and had lived an upright and religious life, and the last years of her long life were rounded out with happiness and content. Their union was blessed with eight children, six of whom still survive. The name of the children are; Mrs. Charles Woodhead and Linda Understock of Lowell; Mrs. Louis Bassler and Mrs. John Seibel of Madison; Mrs. Paul Stolze of Wausau; Joseph Understock, Jr., of Kalispearl, Montana. Besides the children she leaves to mourn sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and one sister; Mrs. Ursal Diedrick of Osthein Alsace. The funeral was held Friday morning at ten o'clock with the services at the house and interment at the Lowell cemetery. Rev. Fr. Kersting officiating. The funeral was very well attended which showed that the deceased was held in high esteem by all who were acqainted with her. |

Daily Citizen-April 29, 1953; Reeseville, Wis - Miss Linda Understock died Tuesday, April 28, at 7:00 a.m. at st. Mary's Hospital, Columbus, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the Lowell Methodist Church. rev. L. Green will officiate at the services and interment will be at the Lowell Cemetery. The deceased was born December 28, 1869, in the Town of Lowell the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Understock. She had resided in this vicinity for many years, and formerly taught in the Lowell and rural schools in this area. Friends may call at the Kuehl funeral home, Reeseville, after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, and until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, when the body will be removed to the church to lie in state until the hour of the service. |
