Mrs. Henry Westhuis, 78, 550 West Jefferson, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, at the Lakeview Long Term Care Unit of Lutheran hospital, Beaver Dam, where she had been a patient for the last 15 months. The former Mary Vant Hoff was born Feb. 16, 1893, in the town of Trenton the daughter of Winnerd and Jacop Van Buren Vant Hoff. She was married Oct. 14, 1914, in the town of Alto. They farmed in the town of Trenton until 1939 when they moved to Waupun. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church and a former member of its Martha circle. Mrs. Westhuis was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 19, 1971, one granddaughter, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lester Vande Zande, Jefferson, Mrs. Marvin Schouten, Waupun; and Mrs. Gordon Ten Pass, rural Burnett; one son, Wesley Westhuis; rural Fox Lake; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Van Veen, Chicago; and Mrs. Hattie Mouw, Waupun. Funeral services were held at Emmanuel Reformed church, Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. The Rev. George Chermak officiated. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens. Her body lay in state in Kohls company funeral home Friday, Dec. 17 from 2-9 p.m. |

Henry Westhuis, 83, 550 West Jefferson st., died Friday, Feb. 19, at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital, Beaver Dam. He was born Dec. 3, 1887, in the town of Alto, the son of Arrie and Alice Schouten Westhuis. The couple resided on a farm in the Trenton township until retiring and moving to Waupun 1939. He was member of Emmanuel Reformed church. Mr. Westhuis is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Lester Vande Zande, Jefferson; Mrs. Marvin Schouten, Waupun; and Mrs. Gordon Ten Pass, Burnett; one son, Wesley Westhuis, Fox Lake; 16 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; one brother Steven Westhuis, Waupun; and one sister, Mrs. Henry Van Buren, Waupun. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. from Emmanuel Reformed church. The Rev. George Chermak officiated. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens. His body lay in state in Kohls company funeral home from 2-9 p.m. and in the church from noon until the hour of services. |
