The Leader News, June 9 & 10, 1987; Staff Sgt. Steven C. Riel, 29, formerly of Waupun, died May 29,1987 at Upper Heyford, United Kingdom. He had been stationed with the 20th CRS, Propeltion Branch Of The United States Air Force.  Funeral services were held today (Monday) at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church, Waupun, with the Rev. Daniel Cuffle officiating. Military burial will follow at the Alto Cemetery. Riel was born March 12, 1958 in Waupun, the son of Wilbert and Joyce (Waggie) Riel. He was married to Phyllis Gitzel. The couple had lived at various air force base prior to being statoned at Upper Heyford, United Kingdom in Feb 1986 where he was a jet engine technician. He was active in the Croughton Assembley of God Church in England. Survivors ibclude his wife; two sons, Benjamin and Aaron, both at home; his parents of Waupun: one brother Jeff Riel, Waupun: Two sisters, Pamela Riel Smith of Offutt Air Base, Omaha Neb., and Susan Riel Of Waupun.
