E. W. Vant Hoff, 69, Died Monday; Rites to Be Held This Afternoon Edward W. Vant Hoff, 69, died at 5 p.m. Monday in the Swartz hospital, several hours after suffering a severe heart attack. Mr. Vant Hoff was born Nov. 22, 1878, in the town of Alto, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Winant Vant Hoff. He was married to Katie Smits Dec. 1, 1906, and the couple resided on a farm in the town of Trenton for amny years. Twelve years ago they moved to their present home in the town of Alto. Mr. Vant Hoff was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed church and was chairman of the building fund committee of that church. He had served as a deacon in the Alto Presbyterian church for many years and also had been a member of the local school board. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon Schouten, of the town of Trenton, and Mrs. Walter Van Veen, of Kewaskum; six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Cornelius Loomans, Albert and John Vant Hoff, Mrs. Andrew Mouw and Mrs. Henry Westhuis , of Waupun, and Mrs. Dick Van Veen of Denver. One sister, Mrs. Herman Hopp, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 1:15 p.m. in the Vant Hoff home in the town of Alto, and at 2 p.m. in the Emmanuel Reformed church. The Rev. Gerrit Menning will officiate at the services and burial will be made in Forest Mound cemetery. Pallbearers will be Benjamin Smits, Benjamin Loomans, Ben Vande Zande, Warren Mouw, Charles Vant Hoff, and Wesley Westhuis. The Waupun Leader News-November 11, 1948: Funeral Services Held for Ed. Vant Hoff Several out of town, relatives and friends attended the funeral services for Ed. W. Vant Hoff held last Thursday afternoon, Nov. 4, at 1:15 p.m. in the Vant Hoff home in Alto, and at 2 p.m. in the Emmanuel Reformed church. The Rev. Gerrit Menning officiated at the services. Those attending the services from out of town were: Mrs. Dena Smits, Mr. and Mrs. John Smits and family of Rock Valley, Iowa, Mrs. Margaret Frissel and daughter of East Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Celia Hilyar, Cyrus Hilyar, Mrs. James Johnston, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scultz, all of Deer Park, Mr. and Mrs. Will Daarnink of Baldwin, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Van Den Berg and daughter of Woodville, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harmsen of Kenosha, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brooks and daughter of Fond du Lac, the Rev. and Mrs. Gerhard Kanniess and Mr. and Mrs. August Bilgo, sr., of Kewaskum. |

Plan Services for Mrs. E. W. Vant Hoff Mrs. Ed. W. (Kate) Vant Hoff, 83, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, in the Waupun Christian Home. She had resided at 230 Hillyer St., before her residence at the Christian Home. She was born Aug. 14, 1884, in the town of Alto, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Smits. She was married to Ed Vant Hoff Dec. 1, 1906. After their marriage they lived in the town of Alto and Trenton until 1949 when she moved to Waupun. Her husband preceded her in death Nov. 1, 1948. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Walter Van Veen, Fond du Lac; and Mrs. Gordon Schouten, Waupun; and one grandson. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Vant Hoff was a charter member of Emmanuel Reformed church and the Mission society. Her body will lie in state at Beyers funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday until 12:30 p.m. Friday at which time it will be taken to Emmanuel Reformed church to lie in state until the hour of services at 2 p.m. The Rev. George Chermak will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Mound cemetery. |

Gordon Schouten, 58, Dies of Heart Attack Gordon Schouten, a resident of 1 Reid's drive, died suddenly at his home Wednesday noon, Jan. 1, of a heart attack at the age of 58. He was born April 20, 1910, in the town of Alto, the son of Gerrit and Jennie Te Beest Schouten. He was married to Dena Vant Hoff Sept. 17, 1936. After their marriage they farmed in the town of Trenton and moved to Waupun in 1955. Mr. Schouten is survived by his wife; one brother, Raymond, Alto; five sisters, Mrs. Clarence Klumpers, town of Trenton; Mrs. Gerrit J. Kamphuis, Genevieve Schouten, Mrs. Winton Westerveld, all of Alto; and Mrs. Gordon Konings, Waupun. He was employed at Ideal Shoe company at the time of his death. He was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed church. His body was in state at Beyers funeral home Friday afternoon and evening, Jan. 3. Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. from Emmanuel Reformed church. The Rev. George Chermak officiated. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens. |
