The Movie:Shrek is probaly the most orginal idea for a movie ever with a strange cast of Shrek (Myers) , the isolated ogre, Donkey (Murphey) , the fun-loving donkey, Fiona (Diaz) the the tough, beautiful princess and Lord Farquaad, (Lithgow) the selfish ruler of Duloc.
Shrek lives alone in a house in a swamp and doesn't like anyone near him. He especially doesn't like it when he meets a donkey with a bigger mouth than a black hole. And he despises it when all the fairie tale creatures turn up on his doorstep by order of Lord Farquaad who is trying to make Duloc perfect and that means all fairie tale creatures must go. So Shrek, led by Donkey goes to Lord Farquaad who agrees to remove the fairie tale creatures if he brings him Princess Fiona who must marry Lord Farquaad if he is to become a true king. So Shrek sets out with Donkey to rescue the Princess which leads to a hilarious and emotional chain of events.
The movie Shrek, despite being original has a few spoofs from The Matrix, Snow White and more. Shrek is hilarious with the crude Shrek, sharpwitted donkey they provide plenty of laughs and when Lord Farquuad and Princess Fiona are there even more! There are some very funny songs such as the Robin Hood theme song, Welcome to Duloc and Princess Fiona's own them song.
The animation is brilliant with amazing worlds contstructed using computers to create the believable atmosphere of real life yet retaining a cartoony feel. The characters are brilliant with semi-realstic humans and imaginative creatures. Their cloths move in the wind and their facial animation is brilliant thanks to a sophisticated muscle technique.
The animators strut their stuff in several scenes with vast forests spanning in the distance with wind blowing the grass and leaves. There are liquids like mud and water with varying viscosities. All in all the technology used in Shrek is breath taking to the smallest detail.
The humour is brilliantly side-splitting with good humour emphasised by the ecstatic performances of the cast. The scrpit is simple but smart at the same time providing a humourous, visualy stunning and great tale.
The Extras: There are plenty of extras to keep you happy like games such as a quiz, a body morph and dress the gingerbread man. My personal favorites is the Shrek Karoke, Animation Interviews and the dubbing studio where you can voice over some scenes from Shrek! (DVD rom required) There are the usual comentries which, although long are worth a look at least once with the interesting people who brought Shrek into this world. There is an interesting 'Tech of Shrek' which tell you about the animation and has some funny things like the basic diagram of Shrek and donkey escaping the dragon where Shrek bends for to dodge the flame and the movie with donkey looking like a chia pet. There are production notes and cast bios. And even the menu itself is fantastic. Extras are half of DVD and this half of DVD gets 100%

This is the ultimate DVD and one of my favorite movies. I highly recommend it and I doubt there will be a single person who's dissapointed. A box office hit that is just as good....no better on DVD!
