a runner with her sister Sharon. Sharon was a national schoolgirl
champion over 800m but Kerry did not have such success.
She began race walking and quickly
began to establish a name for herself in Australia. She improved
significantly in the mid 1980s with assistance from the Australian
Institute of Sport, working under coach Craig Hilliard.
She has set world bests or world
records for the following walk distances:
- 5k road - 4
- 10k road - 2
- 15k road - 1
- 20k road - 3
- 1500m track - 2
- 3000m track - 5
- 5000m track - 5
- 10000m track - 3
- 3000m indoors - 1
In her career, Kerry Saxby-Junna has
won World Championship silver and bronze medals, two Commonwealth
Games gold medals, World Indoor Championships Gold medals.
In 1999, she won a surprise bronze
medal in the inaugural 20k Walk at the World Championships and
continued her good form into 2000 setting a new Commonwealth Record
for the 20k distance in Europe.
Kerry Saxby, 39 year old mother and
veteran walker, will still be a medal hope in Sydney 2000.
