Tasmanian Athletics Champions
The
Tasmanian Championships first commenced in 1928 and Edith Youll, who won the
National Games 90y Hurdles in 1932, was one of the early pioneers of athletics
in the state.
Youll's death, soon after her National Games triumph,
was a tragedy for Tasmanian athletics and, in the late 1930s, the Tasmanian
association withdrew from the AWAAU.
The small population of the Island State has produced
athletics champions such as June Heath, Elaine Frawley, Penny Gray and Susan
Andrews.
