Australia's Commonwealth
Champs
Australian
Track and Field athletes have competed at every Empire Games, since 1930.
Women were first permitted to compete in athletics at the 1934 Games, but
Australia did not send any females, 'due to the cost'.
In 1938, when Australia finally sent a women's team to the
Games, Decima Norman won five Gold Medals - a record that still stands.
Overall, Australia's women athletes have been far more successful than their
male counterparts at the Commonwealth Games.
