Welcome to my chronology of World and Australian Record performances through the years.
Historically Australia has had more success in the Javelin than in any other throwing event. Charlotte McGibbon-Weekes became Australia's first international throws champion in 1950 when she won the Empire (Commonwealth) Games gold medal.
In 1958 Anna Pazera (pictured) also won the Empire Games gold medal, setting a world record of 57.04m - becoming the first Australian to set an official world record in a field or throwing event.
Petra Rivers, Sue Howland, Pam Matthews, Louise McPaul (Currey) and Joanna Stone have also been outstanding performers for Australia winning a variety of international honours from the 1970s through to today.
The Hammer Throw was only introduced into the international calendar in the late 1990s but Australia's women have had considerable success since that time. Debbie Sosimenko has been rated in the world's top five for a number of years and now Bronwyn Eagles is considered one of the world's best throwers since her World Championships bronze medal in 2001.
