Here's the "General Brock", my former boat. The General was in the navy, where he served as a lifeboat. I didn't do the conversion, just patched him up after some neglect. The General was one tough little boat - riveted, galvanized steel, 40 hp Perkins diesel. That was about 20 more than he needed for civy street. He used to plow up the bay if you tried to do more than 6 knots. |

The General had but two faults. One, he was noisy, especially below. The engine was surrounded with sheet steel, and there was no sound insulation. Two, he was overly corky; needed some more ballast. I didn't appreciate what a difference that makes in a lifeboat hull until I built the Icebreaker Danielle. |
