Ann Brown's "Northwich Town"
© March 2004 Ann Brown
Shops and houses
Of black and white
Row after row
Fill your eyes with delight

Historic buildings
Old torn and twisted
Listing falling
Tumbling and listed

Falling down eaves
Shambles and rubble
Streets falling down
Littered with trouble

All the old places
Are falling down
All the old faces
Are leaving the town

Salt left it legacy
on this poor old place
Left its mark
Felt its disgrace

Time for renewal
Of urban decay
They say clean the old buildings
Throw them away

But brick back the splendour
Of times long gone past
With black eaves and render
And buildings that last

Don’t build our hopes
With only a clone
Keep town alive
With carvings of stone
