Floriana Hall's "Whither The Weather"

The month of June in 2003
Brought graduation parties, at least thirty-three,
Outdoor barbecues, bonfires, and open house,
By torrential rains they all were doused.
Puddles prevented using the tent,
Tables and chairs underneath to rent,
Wind blew them down like crumpled tissue,
Volleyball net became an issue.

Guests crowded in rooms and halls
Voices echoed and bounced off walls.
One hundred twenty-five came and went
While questioning what the heavens sent.
But a great time was had by all,
Gifts of love, big and small
From friends and family here and out of town,
They showered the graduate of cap and gown.

A few days later at a cookout
Another downpour down the spout
Suddenly stopped by soleil peeking
Till fog misted from ground up creeping
Resembling Scottish moors,
Gazing out glass patio doors.
Eerie darkness higher rising,
Spooky scene somewhat surprising.

Imagination running rampant,
"Swan Lake" ballet dancers enchantment;
Scenarios from Sherlock Holmes, dark alleys
Haunting songs of The Phantom, Death Valley
Shadowed figures elevated,
Poe's masterpieces celebrated
Fading into another haze
Disappearing like misty sprays.

June in Ohio wears many faces,
When sun is shining, we embrace it
But adjust to seasonal changes
And would never want to exchange
Our state because of fickle seasons,
Beauty here is one of the reasons.
Our land is fertile and flat
And home is here, where it's at.

We love everything about each day,
Snow, rain, shine or fog at play.
