A mother waits for a ship that will never come in
Remembering the warmth of her son's wide grin
A flag is folded into loving hands it will rest
Honor is priceless even when put to the test
A child sobs for her father who can't come home
His soul is above her, into heaven he will roam
Giving his life, a gift greater than all
His name is a person; you can touch on a wall
Entombed in waters silence, a cold metal grave
Lost are our loved ones, that couldn’t be saved
Freedom is costly when every life is precious
As they journey to places, sometimes hazardous
Remember the lost ones, missing and not found
A son or a daughter, buried in foreign ground
Someone still misses them, holding on to hope
Praying for a miracle so inside they can cope
I am proud to be born in the land of the free
Where my family found sanctuary long before me
With the red white and blue, where eagles crest
A country of allegiance, where a flag is addressed
Immigrants find safety on her beloved shores
This place of dreams that opens many doors
Please don’t forget why our nation is great
Soldiers are heroes, not just letters on a nameplate…
